New STC for PMV Engineering: ADS-B Out on Airbus A330-200/-300 series aircraft
PMV Engineering, as EASA DOA 21J.487 approved organisation, is pleased to announce the issuance of their last STC (EASA No. 10083762) for the approval of ADS-B (Automatic Dependant Surveillance – Broadcast) “Out” function on Airbus A330-200/-300 series aircraft.
ADS-B is the replacement and augmentation of radar-based aircraft surveillance systems. With ADS-B, the surveillance of aircraft does no longer rely on radar ground stations, but on airborne GPS receivers. Aircraft equipped with ADS-B broadcast their precise position and velocity data, as well as altitude and supportive information automatically, without pilot input, to ATC on ground (ADS-B Out) or to other aircraft (ADS-B In).
The ADS-B Out was made mandatory in Europe by the Commission Regulation (EU) No 1207/2011 and due to the COVID 19 crisis, the limit date had been extended by 6 months, i.e. until 07 December 2020.
Nowadays, some aircraft still need to be brought into compliance with this mandate for importation in Europe or operation on ADS-B Out mandatory airspace.
What are the benefits of PMV Engineering retrofit solution for A330 ?
The PMV Engineering retrofit solution for A330 deals with different ATC Mode S transponder models (TRA-100B from Honeywell, TPR-901 from Rockwell Collins, and XS-950 from ACSS) within the scope of approval of the same STC. This allows to implement the ADS-B Out function on any aircraft effectivity (limited to models from A330-200 and A330-300 series) with new transponders but coming from the same manufacturer than the replaced units. PMV Engineering’s STC also includes the replacement of the ATC/TCAS control panel for ADSB FAIL indication in cockpit. In all cases, the post-mod ATC configuration fully meets the minimum standard for ADS-B (i.e. RTCA DO-260B/EUROCAE ED-102A).
For information, the validation of this EASA STC No. 10083762 by the FAA is currently in progress and FAA STC issuance is expected by the end of April 2024.
