PMV Engineering obtains new STC for Halon-Free Fire Extinguisher Upgrade on ATR42 & ATR72

PMV Engineering proudly announces the approval of a new Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) reference 10087159 for the retrofit of halon-free fire extinguishers aboard ATR42 and ATR72 aircraft - an essential step to help operators stay ahead of the curve in meeting upcoming environmental and regulatory requirements.

STC for Halon-Free Fire Extinguisher Upgrade on ATR42 & ATR72

In line with EASA Regulation (EU) 2024/590, which requires the replacement of halon portable extinguishers in cabin and crew compartments by 31 December 2025, this STC offers ATR operators a ready-to-implement, sustainable solution.

Developed on behalf of ATR, the retrofit applies to aircraft not equipped with the Armonia cabin and includes the adaptation of the aft cargo compartment extinguishing system

Extension to aircraft with Armonia cabin is underway and will be added to the STC soon!

The solution features Umlaut extinguishers using Halotron BrX ®, an environmentally friendly agent that complies with the Montreal Protocol by replacing ozone-depleting halon—without compromising aircraft safety or performance.

With this STC, PMV Engineering delivers a cost-effective, compliant, and future-ready upgrade, enabling ATR operators to make a smooth transition toward a greener and safer aviation.
